- Course objectives
- The lecture gives a survey about the political and social structure in the German society since 1945 by several topics. Afterwards, the students will be able to widen their mind of the German speaking countries independently.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the seminar, the students are able or have learned the following:
Different constructions of the Austria picture and the Germany picture
Understanding of political and social traditions within German and Austrian society
Understanding current socio-political developments in Austria and Germany
Insight into the mutual (historical) influence of the cultural and social sphere
Concrete knowledge of the political institutions and parties of both countries
Knowledge of the most important historical points of the countries in the 20th and 21st century
Development of analytical and language skills
Extension of own speech - Syllabus
- The seminar deals with the following topics:
- Historical and current lines of party landscape of both countries
- current socio-political events
- Analysis and deconstruction of self and other images
- Comparisons, parallels and differences in the socio-political developmental lines of Austria and Germany
- concrete geography
- Function and history of state institutions of the two countries
- Literature
- Teaching methods
- This lecture is intended as a continuation and supplement to the "Introduction to the History and Culture of the German-Speaking Countries" as well as the regional subjects of the practical language exercises from the first two academic years.

- Regular attendance of lectures.
