- Course objectives
- The aim is to introduce students into a set of basic concepts, which they need to develop for a further insights in psychology. Basic psychical processes, states and traits constitute a framework, which students of education may need to follow and influence in their everyday activities.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon succesful completion of the course, student will be able to:
- define the basic concepts of psychology
- clarify the basic characteristics and functions of psychic phenomena
- describe and explain the basic types of psychic phenomena (psychic processes, states and properties)
- briefly characterize the basic psychological orientations and can indicate their main representatives
- use knowledge of psychological methods to improve knowledge of itself and of others - Syllabus
- 1. Psychology among sciences, psychology as a human science, psychological science disciplines - classification, subject. Psychology and its place in human life, psychology in education.
- 2. History of psychology.
- 3. Basic methods in psychology - observation, experimental method, interview, inventory, test, results of activity analysis, biographical method, anamnesis, instrumentation methods.
- 4. Basic concepts of psychology - mind, consciousness, unconsciousness, experience, behavior, psychic processes, psychic states, psychic properties, personality etc. Basic characteristics and functions of psychic phenomena. Classification of psychic phenomena. Psychic determination, psychic development.
- 5. Sensory processes, perception (characterization, basic kinds of percepts, perception properties, basic kinds of perception, perception types).
- 6. Imagination /image and fantasy/ (characterization, basic kinds of images, imagination types, association laws).
- 7. Thinking and language, problem-solving (characterization, thought forms, thought operations, basic kinds of thinking, individual properties of thinking, basic kinds of language, thinking and problem-solving - phase, kinds of problems, problem-solving methods).
- 8. Memory (characterization, phase memory process, basic kinds of memory, types of memory, properties of memory). Learning (characterization, types of learning, learning phase, learning factors).
- 9. Attention (characterization, properties of attention, kinds of attention, attention types).
- 10. Emotions, feelings (characterization, basic characteristics of emotions, components of emotional process, classification of emotions - basic kinds, individual differences).
- 11. Voluntary act (characterization, structure - voluntary act phase, voluntary properties).
- 12. Activity (characterization, basic kinds of human activity - game, learning, work).
- 13. Motivation (motive, motivation, motivation process, characterization of basic motives).
- 14. Conflicts and conflict situations (basic kinds of conflicts, basic types of conflicts, resource conflict, typical conflict situations, conflict resolution and response to conflicts).
