Course objectives
In the seminar foreign students will become acquainted with the broad range of employment open to them as future graduates of the bachelors studies programme in Czech language and literature. A specific feature of the programme, as with the whole specialisation, is the combination of the student’s status as a non-native speaker, with the ability in terms of Czech language competency to reach a final level of C2 (the equivalent of a native speaker). One of the main prospects will be becoming familiar with the potential opportunities both within the Czech Republic and in their home countries. Students will encounter a wealth of offers in the field of culture (Czech centres, representative offices, cultural organisations, projects in Czech school without borders, Czech kindergartens etc.), in commerce (language advisors in private firms or international organisations), within the scope of regional cooperation (microregions, partner towns, cross-border cooperation projects between the Czech Republic and neighbouring states) or as translators. Particular attention will be paid to the possibilities of using the acquired knowledge as teachers of Czech language, be that in the Czech Republic itself or abroad, within the scope of languages courses outside the academic environment. Here students will above all become familiar with study materials and testing methods, as well as the types of test under the auspices of various testing centres.
Learning outcomes
After completing the subject students will be able to:
- name the main differences in language levels according to CEFR for Czech;
- have good knowledge of the available study materials, judge their suitability for various types of course, ages of students, teaching aims etc.
- name and characterise the main testing methods.
The student will also gain an overview of possible careers in the job market, whether that be in the Czech Republic or their home country.
