Prerequisites
The course is intended for students of master degree studies. Basic knowledge on history of European baroque painting in 17th and 18th century is presupposed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course introduces selected chapters from the history of the baroque ceiling painting in Central Europe and Italy.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to:
- describe the specifics of ceiling paintings in the 17th and 18th century;
- describe the main iconographic topics of the baroque ceiling painting and explain their meaning;
- describe basic technologies of early modern ceiling painting.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the study of the baroque ceiling painting.
  • 2. Iconography and iconology: glorification/apotheosis as the most important iconographic theme of early modern art.
  • 3. Illusionism in baroque ceiling painting; relationship between ceiling paintings and architecture.
  • 4. Technology of baroque wall painting.
