Course objectives

Specialized Field: Social psychology (guarant: Prof.. PhDr. Primary field: Social Psychology (guarantors: Prof. Marek Blatny, and Prof. Tomas Urbanek).
This course, intended for students seeking a PhD. in social psychology, includes topics already addressed in undergraduate-level courses of social psychology. However, doctoral students are expected to show a far deeper and more comprehensive understanding of these issues and findings, as well as an ability to accurately consider this knowledge in their research projects. Doctoral students must demonstrate knowledge of both classic and contemporary models and theories of social psychology, including current directions in the field. They must be able to consider and use these models and theories correctly when addressing their own research questions, especially those pertaining to their doctoral research projects. They also have to be familiar with the philosophical and methodological foundations of psychological research and must be able to apply this knowledge in their own research.

Syllabus

• The purpose of this course is to help and encourage students in developing their knowledge and understanding of the many fundamental issues arising from the interaction between the psychology of human individuals and the influences of their social contexts. The course covers theories, approaches, key findings and knowledge systems spanning from late 19th century up to the current state of the art. Students are required to study internationally published literature independently, including key theoretical and research studies in the field of social psychology.
