Course objectives
The course is oriented on familiarization the students with the basic aspects of social communication in the conditions of the teaching practice. It is focused on the development of the effective communication skills (including listening) in basic situations of teacher’s interaction with the students: structuring narration, basics of non-verbal and paraverbal communication, formulating utterances, dictating notes, working with the speech during the dictation, initiation and leading the discussion etc. The course is expected as well to introduce to principles of preparing presentational aids for teaching.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able:
- to understand the role of the skill of effective addressing the students and sharing your own thoughts and teaching material with them;
- to know the main principles of presentation skills;
- to prepare the presentation of the lesson in MS PowerPoint and to work with it;
- to deal with the activation elements of the lecture and structuring the presentation;
- to use theoretical knowledge and skills gained in training in practically usable skills.
Syllabus
  • The basic scheme of the course:
  • 1. what is rhetoric, the development and meaning of the discipline;
  • 2. the basic communication model and its implications for school practice;
  • 3. the verbal components of communication, how to use words;
  • 4. the instrumental/paraverbal component of communication, its meaning and influencing, beside other things in writing a dictation;
  • 5. the non-verbal components of communication, its singular elements;
  • 6. the structure of a lecture;
  • 7. activation elements in the communication with the students, in presentation/lecture;
  • 8. communicational types and technics of communication with them;
  • 9. argumentation in teaching - beside other things in providing a feedback to the students (examining, evaluating of interest about the subject, …);
  • 10. discussion and how to lead and influence it;
  • 11. the rhetoric styles and their characteristics;
  • 12. active training in model situations.
