Course objectives
Students will familiarize with various theoretical approaches to audioculture.
Apart from theoretical reflection of sound world students will also engage in practical outputs of audioculture and with specific possibilites of recording and changing the sound world through realizations of sound interventions/sound artworks.
Students will learn to identify keystones of audioculture in point of view of discussed author's conceptions. They will learn to record manifestations of audioculture and enter it as its co-creators as well.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the subject student will be able to:
- identify framework of particular sound artwork
- understand theoretical study regarding audioculture, sound dimension of our perceived reality, sound artwork
- be knowledgeable in basic possibilites of production of her/his own sound artwork/sound action
- work with basic equipment for recording sound
- perceive her/his own place in the world as in a sort of a way a place of co-creator of sound world
- have general awareness about its theoretical and practical aspects
- produce intentionally sound interventions

Teaching methods
Subject is oriented on audioculture and simultaneously is under way on in more dimensions of reflection the topic of sound in our culture and in practical applications.
#1 lectures: theory, concepts, contexts regarding audioculture: sound studies, aural history, oral history, sound art, field recordings/phonography, acoustic ecology, media ecology, media ecology art, radioart and more
#2 seminar: soundwalk, field recording, sound interventions, sound design
#3 seminar: presentation of outputs from #2 and discussion about topics from #1 at own radio programme at student's Radio R at FSS MU
#4 lectures: presentations of guests from the field
Assessment methods
There is 50% obligatory attendance at lectures and seminars and very recommended active approach to actions in the field and practical outputs (it could be field recording, soundwalks, sound interventions, sound design). Broadcasting of one show regarding one of discussed topics (in cooperation with colleagues and teacher) at student's Radio R at FSS MU is obligatory.
