Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The subject follows on from CJCC02. The aim of the subject is to strengthen and deepen the knowledge which the student gained in CJCC01, and in addition to master accurate expression (oral and written), which is grounded in comprehension of grammatical and orthographical features. A further aim is the making Czech grammar instinctive at C1 level of the CEFR and its development and refinement in spoken and written expression. Practicing Czech grammar with an emphasis on revising the Czech declension systém and Czech conjugation, syntax and verb phrases. The ability to write a résumé of Czech texts.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to:
- apply the acquired knowledge of Czech grammar in practical real-life communication, both oral and written (for instance in preparing a presentation or paper on the joint basis of the subjects Czech language and literature and also in everyday communication);
- create a grammatically, orthographically and lexically correct résumé on the basis of a written or spoken text (of an artistic or non-artistic character);
- identify and describe individual word classes and apply this knowledge in Czech-language communication; understand, use and subsequently explain grammar features , which were consolidated and analysed once more in the given period; compare features of Czech grammar they have studied with the grammar of their own language;
- find and subsequently correct grammar mistakes in a given text, and can justify their corrections, and can correctly use Czech and Latin linguistic terminology.
Syllabus
  • 1. Seminars are based on various types of whole texts, on the basis of which the student prepares a résumé and then works with related exercises on the text.
  • 2. In exercises emphasis is placed on systematic practice of the declension systém and verb conjugation.
  • 3. Adverbs- gradation (in connection with the revision of gradating adjectives).
  • 4. Conjunctions, interjections, particles.
  • 5. Syntax- coordination- determination, linking words; converting direct and indirect speech; word order.
  • 6. As part of the lessons the student also enriches their vocabulary from the texts covered.
  • 7. ‘Revision lessons‘, which the student completes in writing, check the student’s progress and form part of each seminar. 8. Correction exercises.

Teaching methods
Classes led by the teacher (theoretical preparation), homework, completing exercises (oral and written), individual work, group work, presentations in the lesson based on self-study, a résumé prepared on the basis of a text which the student has read, correction exercises, ‘review lessons‘ – written progress tests.
Assessment methods
To complete the course it is necessary to successfully fulfill the requirements of the closing written test and prepare a résumé of a text the student has read. It is also necessary to abide by the following regulations: 1/ Attendance of lessons includes completing work set by the teacher (homework, in-class presentations etc.) Failure to complete this work (student’s lack of preparation) is counted as an absence. 2/ Students are not allowed to change groups, apart from in exceptional cases with the prior written permission of the teacher.
