Course objectives
Introduction to early modern art
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will be able to recognize basic topics of early modern art (artists, patrons, function of artworks, iconographical topics, context of the artworks)
Syllabus
  • Finnish art from the middle ages to 20th century: castle and cathedral in Turku Olavinlinna artists of 17th and 18th centuries (Joachim Neiman, Elias Brenner, Mikael Toppelius ad.) from neoclassicism to romantism (Erik Cainberg; Werner Holmberg; Fanny Churberg) painters of the end of 19th century and beginning of 20th century (Albert Edelfelt; Helene Schjerfbeck; Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg ad.) art nouveau architecture modern architecture (Gottlieb Eliel Saarinen; Eero Saarinen; Alvar Aalto).
