Course objectives
The series of lectures and seminars aims to give students a basic overview of the development of Latin script from the 13th to the 15th century. Students should master these skills: a) the typology and dating of Latin scripts, b) the palaeographic characteristics of individual script types, c) palaeographic analysis and comparison, d) transcription of Early Medieval Latin texts, e) an overview of the basic literature and editions.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
apply their knowledge of the development of script from the 13th to the 15th century based on specific sources, particularly for dating undated texts;
transcribe original Latin texts from the period 1200-1500;
analyse and read original Latin texts from the period 1200-1500.
