- Course objectives
- The course is outlined as a first part of two-semester lecture that aims at capturing the most important developmental phases of world theatre and drama. The lecture will focus on some historic and style epochs (the ancient world, Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque) as well as principal works and personalities of world drama and theatre (Sofokles, Euripides, Machiavelli, Shakespeare...), including selections from their work.

- At the end of this course, students should be able to take bearings in the theatre history.

- ANCIENT WORLD - Function and manner of theatre running, Greek tragedy + comedy, space, differences between Greek and Roman concept of theatre and theatre space
- MIDDLE AGES - Religious and secular genres of medieval theatre
- RENAISSANCE - Commedia erudita, commedia dell arte, siglo de oro, Elizabethan theatre…
