Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present probable reconstructions of life of hunter-gatherer communities in Palaeolithic based on archaeological sources, ethnographic parallels, experiments and survival principles. Not only archaeological finds are presented, but also methodological approaches, as well as hypotheses that have not been tested yet. The main objective of the course is to open a discussion about the possibilities we have in creating syntheses, especially on the meaningful use of interdisciplinary analyses.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, student should be able to:
- characterize individual aspects of the life of Palaeolithic populations (alimentary and settlement strategies, site structures, technological knowledge, non-utilitarian behaviour)
- describe methodological procedures which are used for the analysis of archaeological contexts and for creation of syntheses
- understand the possibilities of ethnological analogies
- apply the principles of interdisciplinary cooperation to other periods and archaeological specialisations.
