Course objectives
Aim of the course is an introduction to the basic concepts, models and theories in personality theory and research.
Learning outcomes
This course is an introduction to the basic concepts in personality theory and research. The attention is given to defining of personality, units of personality, structure and dynamics of personality, nature and nurture of personality, growth and development of personality, and methods of personality assessment. After the course students will be able to integrate theoretical and empirical level of research in interindividual differences. At the end of this course the students will be able to link theoretical knowledge and acquired experiences with their practical use in research.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction (aim of personality psychology, definition of personality, structure, dynamics, development). 2. Nature - nurture debate, proximal and distal environment. 3. Biological basis of personality: temperament. Definition, structure, theories (I. P. Pavlov, C. G. Jung, H. J. Eysenck, R. C. Cloninger etc.). 4. Structure of personality - traits. Definition, structure, theories (R. B. Cattell, H. J. Eysenck, Five Factor Model). 5. Cognitive units and abilities (intelligence, cognitive styles, classic and modern theories of intelligence). 6. Motivation, motivational models (hedonistic and growth models). 7. Self-concept and its dimensions, self-awareness. 8. Self-regulation. 9. Areas of current research in personality psychology.
