- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the history of language thinking from antiquity to the beginning of the 21st century. The lectures describe the development of thinking about language in philosophy, ancient and medieval grammar, to the emergence of modern linguistics and its current developmental tendencies. The structure of the course is based on the generally accepted periodization of the history of language thinking (prehistoric – pre-scientific – scientific period).
