Course objectives
Ecodramaturgy refers to works of theater and performance art that explore the relationship between human existence and the non-human world. This artistic reflection has historical roots and has been present throughout various periods of human culture. The seminar will provide an opportunity to examine different perspectives on how the theory and practice of performing arts in Europe and the USA reflect humanity's position in relation to the planet. The first part will focus on the origins of ecodramaturgy, providing a historical overview and discussing current dominant topics and approaches. In the second part, we will discuss the aesthetics of depicting human relationships in nature. Additionally, we will explore the theory and practice of making theater institutions more environmentally friendly, which occurs on multiple levels.
