- Syllabus
- The Master's State Exam consists of two parts realized by oral form:
- 1) Defense of master's thesis.
- - Report reflecting opinions of the supervisor and the opponent will be available at the latest 5 working days before the defense in the archive of final theses in IS.
- - The student has the right to a defense even if he received negative reviews.
- 2) Exam in film theory and history and audiovisual culture.
- Exam in film theory and history and audiovisual culture. The topics for the master's state exam are divided in three blocks, defined by the approach to the history of cinema: cultural, industrial and aesthetic history. Each of these three blocks, by defining and organizing its circuits, closely follows the three profile courses of the master's study: Cultural History of Cinematography, Film Industry, Historical Poetics of Film. The state exam in relation to profile areas examines above all orientation, critical thinking and argumentative ability. For each area, (a) confidential familiarity with the assigned mandatory texts and their role in the subject discussion, (b) the ability to critically evaluate them and (c) readiness to relate the established discussion to a specific historical phenomenon are tested. The framework of the discussion at the exam is defined by additional questions for individual areas, which will follow the teaching of each of the three profile courses. The exam will then take place in such a way that the student draws one circle for each of the three blocks, will discuss the assigned topics and texts and answer additional questions. The factual background for the discussion of the drawn areas will then represent the knowledge of the history of Czech and world cinema to the extent required for the completion of a bachelor's degree at our Institute.
