Course objectives
The seminar follows and extends KLA_001 (Introduction to classical archaeology) lecture. In the frame of the seminar there are presented and explained actuall questions/issues of classical archaeology and based on their examples there are demonstrated and explained the special methods, theoretical and interpretative approaches. Individual students's work and interaction between students and lecturers are highly accented. In the end of the seminar the students are capable to use and apply the main methods of classical archaeology successfully.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the seminar the students are capable to use and apply the main methods of classical archaeology, present a sub-topic after their individual study successfully and use the classical archaeology's terminology correctly. Students have a good overview of the basic sources and their editions.
Syllabus
  • In the seminar following the lecture, there are gradually practiced the following chapters/topics: 1. Terminology 2. Main basic methods of classical archaeology (typology, analysis of style etc.) 3. Main bibliographic sources 4. Main electronic sources 5. Main questions/issues of the contemporary classical archaeology and approaches to their explanation, interpretation, and solution.

Teaching methods
Practical exercises, individual studying, presentation and intense discussion.
Assessment methods
Fulfillment: Attendance and active participation in the seminar, presented essay on the topic assigned and bibliography. Succesfull fulfillment of the seminar represents a prerequisite for admission to the exam from the course KLA_002 Introduction to classical archaeology.
