Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of Modern Greek (A0-A1 CEFR).
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases related to areas of the most immediate relevance;
- communicate in the most common situations of everyday life (introduce himself, ask questions about hobbies, languages etc.);
- understand simple texts focused on given topics;
- write simple short texts;
- explain and apply grammatical phenomena they were taught.
Syllabus
  • Grammar: Ellinika sto pi kai fi, lessons 1-4: the alphabet, phonetics, the article, present tense active and passive of 1st conjugations, present tense active of 2nd conjugation, numerals, regular nouns and adjectives.
  • Topics: Greetings, introduction, studies, family, employment, languages, time, weather, daily schedule.

Teaching methods
The course has a form of a seminar and lectures. Homework is required during semester – students prepare assigned grammatical exercises and short translations from Modern Greek into Czech and vice versa, which they submit by the specified deadline.In addition, students take three midterm written tests during the semester.
Assessment methods
Requirements for obtaining the credits: passing two midterm written tests (65%), passing the final written test (min. 70%), assignments submitted and active participation in class (min. 70%).
