- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is a systematic comparison of the language systems of contemporary Russian and Czech, especially at the lexical, syntactic, stylistic and textual levels. Special attention is paid to differential and interference phenomena at various levels of the language with emphasis on lexical phenomena (naming level), morphological and syntactic: different degrees of analyticity and synthetics, unequal degree of historical influence of different languages on lexical systems of Russian and Czech, Russian-Czech issues homonymy, semantic asymmetry of polysemic lexemes in R and Č, asymmetry of stylistic stratification of R and Č; declension and conjugation systems R and Č; asymmetric sentence models, expression of being and possession, word order in Russian and Czech sentences, different degrees of syntactic condensation (semisentential formations).
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- to orientate oneself in the current relevant professional literature on the given issue,
- explain the basic typological differences between Russian and Czech, - describe and compare the grammatical structure of Russian and Czech with emphasis on differential phenomena,
- describe and compare the lexical and word-formation structure of Russian and Czech with emphasis on differential phenomena,
- describe and compare the syntactic system of Russian and Czech with emphasis on differential phenomena,
- arguably choose equivalent language resources from a set of variant resources at all levels of the language system of both languages. - Syllabus
- 1. Typological characteristics of Russian and Czech.
- 2. Differences between Russian and Czech in terms of different degrees of synthesis / analyticity.
- 3. Characteristics of Russian and Czech vocabulary, differences in naming.
- 4. Comparison of vocabulary Russian and Czech in terms of asymmetry of form and meaning (lexical equivalence).
- 5. Characteristics of morphological systems Russian and Czech.
- 6. Comparison of declension systems Russian and Czech.
- 7. Comparison of conjugation systems Russian and Czech.
- 8. Characteristics of Russian and Czech syntactic system.
- 9. Expression of being and possession in Russian and Czech.
- 10. Verbal capacitors (semi-sentence formations) in Russian and Czech.
- 11. Word order in Russian and Czech.
