Course objectives
The main goal is to illustratively demonstrate specific features of the development of Slavonic literatures after the "big bang" at the turn of the 1980-1990s up to the present time, especially the disintegration of traditional structures under the influence of postmodernism and postpostmodernism, the returns of Modernism and Neo-Realism and also preromantic and romantic genres with mystery, such as the Gothic Novel, roman noir, roman frénétique, and Schauerroman, Neo-Avantgarde tendencies, the returns of conservatism and the peculiarities of the existence of Slavonic literatures, e. g. samizdat and tamizdat, i. e. uncensored and exile literature, typical of the second half of the 20th century, and convergences of literary currents and genres of the first third of the 21st century.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the doctoral students will be able to understand and explicate the principole changes in the development of Slavonic literatures at the end of the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st centuries in connection with political coups d'état and the world globalization tendencies, the sense and results of the convergences of literary currents and genres including the concrete examples of authors and works supported by one's own reading also in foreign languages and the probable evolution od Slavonic literatures in the 21st century.

  • 1)The unbalanced development of Slavonic literatures after 1945: further development of socialist realism, schematization, political control of literature and literary life, the fates of Modernism and Avant-Garde 2)New tendencies of Slavonic literatzures after 1956: new realism, retiurns to zthne pepouios of Modernism and Avant-Garde, illegal dissemination of literature, underground, samizdat 3)The convergence of literary currents: remnants of Romanticism, Realism, Modernism and their innovations 4)Slavonic literatzres beyond the border: the literattre of Slavonic emigration, their national specific features, and the relation of home country, tamizdat, the structure of the literary life beyond border, centres of Slavonic literary emigration in 1945-1989 and its contemporary state, the Slavonic emigrantology 5)The Slavonic postmodernism, its poetics, comparison of different Slavonic literatures a their manifestation of postmodernist poetics 6)New phenomena in the literature of the beginning of the 21st century: new historicism, genre revitalization, Neo-Avantgarde phenomena, neoconservative tendencies 7)The key figures and the world phenomena in Slavonic literatures at the end of the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st centuries
