Kurs by měl obeznámit se základními pojmy estetické teorie, budované na principech strukturalismu: estetická funkce, norma a hodnota, jazyk umění a text, znak, typologie znaků aj. Dálese budeme věnovat pochopení strukturality struktury, klasickému dekonstruktivnímu pojetí znaku, vztahu napodobení a podobnosti, vztahu obrazu a slova. Ačkoli většina těchto pojmů má původ především v lingvistice, postupně se transformovaly i do jiných humanitních věd, včetně filmologie, přičemž tato aplikace nepřinesla jen nové přístupy, ale i omezení, která se snaží překonat současná poststrukturalistická filosofie. Právě hledáním nových modelů respektujícíh "energie vlny" filmu, bude dalším předmětem kurzu.
