Course objectives
Disorders of Psychic Development The course provides a survey of disorders of psychic development and of abnormal psychic development of the various psychic functions and personality in childhood and adolescence. Psychopathological diagnostic categories with focus on childhood and adolescence are presented. Bodily development and motor responses – the norm and the pathology. Poliomyelitis. Disorders of perception, imagination, emotions, intellect, consciousness, attention, volition, memory, thought, delusions. Speech development – the norm and the pathology, school-relevant deficiencies in the structure of aptitudes, the concept of laterality. Consequences of psychic deprivation, child abuse and neglect. Neurotic syndromes. Child personality – the norm and beyond. Classification of unharmonious personality development. Activity and attention disorders: MBD, ADHD, DAMP, CD, ECD, AD, EAD, ADD. Emotional disorders. Elective mutism. Tic disorders. Eating disorders. Pica. Enuresis. Encopresis. Stammer. Tumultus sermonis. Disorders of basic vegetative functions. Paroxysmal disorders. Psychoses in children. Schizophrenia in children. Psychogenic responses in adolescence. Post-traumatic stress disorder. Contemporary psychiatric classification systems: ICD-10, DSM-IV.
