- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course will be to explicitly describe the use of selected expressions of English with the main focus on deixis, tense, negation, modality, quantifiers, coordinators and other logical or quasi-logical operators. Some attention will also be devoted to the function of pragmatic particles (subjuncts) and other illocution-indicating means. In all these analyses a strictly empirical position will be adopted i.e. staying within the limits of ordinary language and, possibly, teaching English as a foreign language. Prerequisite: Only those who have already done the course on "Elements of Semantics" or any similar introduction to semantics are eligible.
