Course objectives
The course "Tendencies in Modern Norwegian Language" includes lectures and exercises about Norwegian as a social problem in Norway since 19th century. We are going to speak about dialects and socialects and their role in Norway in the last thirty years.
Syllabus
  • 1. The language situation in Norway after 1850. Norway gets a new language. The consequences in literature and the normal life, the consequences in the politic sphere. Dannish and its change, riksmaal. 2. The language becomes an object for politic discussions. 20th century and its reformes. The consequences. The written language. 3. The spoken language. The reality. 4. The dialects and their role in Norway, their structure, differences. 5. The sociolects and their role. 6. The stilistic scale in Norwegian. A comparison with Czech. 7. Tendencies
