Course objectives
PSA-17 Social Psychology II (Attitudes, Social Processes in Groups) The second part of social psychology is dedicated to the study of interpersonal social behaviour, social communication and attitudes. The topics are shown in their relation to the world in which the instructor and the students live. Subjects: Groups and Group Behaviour. Social Influence. Social Communication. Attitudes and Attitude Change.
Syllabus
  • 1. Group processes: a) Small social group - basic definitions. The classification and typology of the groups. Structure of a group, role of the members of the groups. Dynamic of the group. Styles of managing a group. Methods of analysis of group relations and dynamic. b) Large groups - the typology of large groups. The characterization of a mass. Group anonymousness and suggestion. 2. Interpersonal relations a) Social communication - the characterization of the communication process. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Metacommunication. Communication styles and relations. Functional communication and bad communication habbits. b) Interpersonal relations and behaviour - basic dimension of interpersonal relations (T. Leary). 3. Attitudes a) Attitude - basic definition. Theoretical approaches. Structures of attitudes. The methods of attitudes measuring. b) Changes of attitudes - intentional and non-intentional changes of the attitude. Stereotypes and prejudices. Persuasion.
