Course objectives
This course deals with the personality and work of Vladislav Vančura in the context of our inter-war culture period as well as in relations between the author and other important personalities and period literary criticism.
Syllabus
  • The goal of this seminar is to provide an exposition of the personality of Vladislav Vančura, his life and relations to other public or literary figures (using, among others, the memoir works by Ludmila Vančurová, Vítězslav Nezval, Jaroslav Seifert, or Bedřich Fučík), and above all to provide an exposition of his own works. Prosaic works and possibly dramas will be analysed successively, with a special regard to characters, language and period critical perception. Vančura's distinctive essayistic work, film work and issues concerning various adaptations (above all film adaptations) will not be left aside.
