Course objectives
Pedagogical Diagnostics The objective of this course is to introduce the students both to the theory and to the practice of educational diagnostics. The study will be rooted in the knowledge of pedagogical methodology. Seminars will concentrate on the analysis of typical educational situations and the use of diagnostic instruments when dealing with such situations including the interpretation of gathered data. Lectures will deal with various conceptions of pedagogical diagnostics, its defining and kinds of diagnoses. Special attention will be paid to assessment and qualitative attitudes in pedagogical diagnostics (development of assessment, conception and basis of school assessment). Next, we will analyze the measuring and quantitative attitudes in pedagogical diagnostics (scales, types of scales and requirements for their construction). There will be explained the methods of pedagogical diagnostics and emphasis will be put on their classification. We will take notice of the method of observation (its types and objects, its organization and features), explorative methods (their features), questionnaires (its features), educational tests (types of didactic tests, types of testing items, features of standardized educational tests) and methods of the assessment of students (critique of traditional methods of assessment, types of traditional examinations and their features). We will also deal with teacherseducational styles, diagnostics of the causes of students failures, diagnostics of relationships and educational situations in the class, diagnostics of the family, school maturity and role of the special educational diagnostics.
