Course objectives
The course is focusing on analysis of day-to-day life and material culture and their metamorphoses in baroque. Single lectures are distinguished in accordance to social classes of society at that time – the monarch, the aristocracy/nobility, the townsfolk, the liege people, the people with special status (Jews, Gipsies, foreigners). The aim of the course is acquaintance with baroque day-to-day life and material culture in the Czech Lands.
Syllabus
  • Everyday life in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia 2. half of 17. century, consequencecs of thirty years war.
  • Structure of society, handicrafts and manufactory.
  • Sustenance, costume, furniture, banquets, music, medicine and hygiene, etc.
  • Warfare - development of tactik, arms and armories.
  • Science, religion, recatholisation.
  • Games and entertainment.
