- Course objectives
- The main aim of the course is to introduce the students to the modern theories of syllable structure. The first part of the course is focused on the Onset-Rhyme Theory. Students should be able to apply this theory crosslinguistically as well as from the diachronic perspective.

- 1. Syllabic constituents: Onset, Rhyme, Nucleus 2. Representation of coda 3. Syllable weight: heavy vs. light syllables 3. Syllabification - Sonority Sequencing Principle, Maximal Onset Principle 4. Extrasyllabicity 5. Syllabification and cyclicity
