Course objectives
This course aims to provide a basic and practical knowledge of Hungarian language. During the course we will focus on communicative skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as pronunciation and grammar. Students who complete this course will not only acquire a grasp of the basic Hungarian language but also Hungarian culture.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to Hungarian language. Greetings and Introduction. Grammar: personal pronouns, conjugation of the substantive verb „lenni”, definite and indefinite article. 2. What language(s) do you speak? Languages, adverbs of place. Verbs and their conjugation. 3. Go Shopping. Numbers and colours. Grammar: suffixes, objective case. 4. Living and houshold. Grammar: singular and plural form, conjugation. 5. Expressing Time. Adverbs of time. Grammar: prefixes and suffixes. 6. Health and Sports. Visiting the doctor. Grammar: singular, plural form, modal verbs. 7. Family. Adjectives. 8. Eating and Drinking. In a restaurant. 9. Traffic and Travelling. Grammar: modal verbs, conditional. 10. Entertainment and Free Time. 11. Past tense. 12. Hungarian culture. Revision, practise. 13. Hungarian literature. Revision, practise.
