Gusto por el teatro. Capacidad para leer varias obras de teatro y de crítica en un semestre. Conocimientos básicos de la historia de Hispanoamérica y de los géneros literarios.

Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: 1. to present an overview of the most significant authors, periods and tendencies in Latin-American theater. 2. to profound in the specific values of this theater in its relation with society, religion and world's theater. 3. to practice the commentary of dramatic texts.
Syllabus
  • 1: Colonial Theatre: Sor Juan Inés de la Cruz & Juan Ruiz de Alarcón. 2: Theater of the Independence: Florencio Sánchez y Rodolfo Usigli. (2 semanas) 3: Birth of national theaters in the second half of 20th. century. 4: Postmodernity and last tendencies. Readings: Loa al Divino Narciso, Sor Juana; La verdad sospechosa (Alarcón); Barranca abajo (F. Sánchez); El gesticulador (R. Usigli); textos de Gambaro, Wolff, Carballido, Triana; Texts by Parra, Berman, Spregelburd, Moncada.
