Course objectives
The subject is focused on total characteristic of slovak surrealism group, which will be created at the end of 30th and frequently is called like a second phase of slovak avant-garde. In series of lectures attention will aim on cultural and social situation in Slovakia in 30th and 40th of 20th century so as to be evident in which context group based, existed and disappeared. In this connection will gradually outline contours and typology of slovak surrealism. Via profiles of significant members of group and mostly via emphatic reading of their texts will be specified general image and character of surrealism in history of slovak literature. Syllabus
  • Contours of situation in Slovakia before formation of surrealistic group (historic and literary context). Formation and developmnet. Reactions and polemics in papers. Critics and teoretics of slovak surrealism (M. Bakoš, M. Považan). Slovak surrealism (nadrealizmus) and world surrealism. Literary output and graphic art. Three surrealistic collections and its characteristic. Constants of slovak surrealistic poetry program a centrifugal character of their production. Between tradition and experiment. Question of genres in slovak surrealism. Echo of war in slovak surrealistic production. Digression from „poetry of a new seeing“ after changes in 1948 and desintegration of group.
