Prerequisites
There is a marathon of authors reading their short texts held in Brno every July. This year, there will be 30 Wiennese authors presenting their works. Hence, we are looking for translators.
Each translator will be assigned roughly 12 pages of text to translate from German to Czech. Their translations will be projected on the wall while the author reads the original in German.

Course objectives
The course will introduce the field of literary translation, studying the issues and pitfalls found in the works of contemporary Austrian authors. Excerpts from their works will be distributed among translators and the translations will be discussed in class.
There will be an opportunity to get to know the author, personally, as well as to focus on (translations of) their works in final year theses. Some translations may get published, as Větrné mlýny and other publishers are very eager to recruit new translators and publish contemporary literature.
