Course objectives
The aim of this course is to get the students acquainted with the general theory of possessiveness, with theoretic and developmental aspects of possessive adjectives ending in -ův/-in and with an analysis of adjectives ending in -ův/-in within the framework of generative grammar. Another aim is to demonstrate possibilities of corpus-based research of possessive adjectives ending in -ův/-in.
Syllabus
  • 1) General theory of possessiveness. 2) Basic characterization of possessive adjectives ending in -ův/-in in classical Czech grammars (Grammatical category, Meaning and usage, Formation, Morphological structure, Situation in dialects, Declination, Syntax) 3) Basic characterization of possessive adjectives ending in -ův/-in in recent literature on Czech studies 4) The analysis of possessive adjectives ending in -ův/-in within the framework of generative grammar. 5) Possibilities of corpus-based research of possessive adjectives ending in -ův/-in.

Teaching methods
The seminar combines teacher’s theoretical explanations with individual students’ presentations (seminar works). Acceptance of the seminar work is a condition for receiving the credits.
