Course objectives
This course aims to provide a basic and practical knowledge of Hungarian language. During the course we will focus on communicative skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as pronunciation and grammar. Students who complete this course will not only acquire a grasp of the basic Hungarian language but also Hungarian culture.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to Hungarian language. Unit 1: "Te magyar vagy?" Greetings and Introduction. Grammar: personal pronouns, conjugation of the substantive verb "lenni". Vocabulary: countries, nationalities.
  • 2. Unit 2: "Mennyibe kerül?" Grammar: definite and indefinite articles, numerals. Conversation: How much is it? What is it? How is it look like? Vocabulary: basic adjectives.
  • 3. Unit 3: "Ki vagy te? Ki ő?" Grammar: accusative. Conversation: Who are you? Who is he? How old is he? What would you like? Vocabulary: professions, shopping.
  • 4. Unit 4: "Magyarul tanulok az iskolában" Grammar: vocal harmony, suffixes, conjugation. Conversation: What language(s) do you speak? Where dou you study? Where is...? Vocabulary: basic verbs.
  • 5. Unit 5: "Hol él a hal?" Grammar: conjugation, negative sentences. Conversation: Where are you? What are you doing? Where is he? What is he doing?
  • 6. Revision. Unit 6: "Abdullah törökül beszél", Unit 7: "Hol van a kék zokni?" Grammar: suffix: -ul, -ül; adverbs of place. Conversation: What languages do you speak? Where is the...?
  • 7. Unit 8: "A macskák a szobában vannak" Grammar: suffix: -ban, -ben, plural. Conversation: Where are we/ you/they?
  • 8. Unit 9: "Hol vannak a holland turisták?" Grammar: plural. Conversation: Where are they? How are they look like? How old are they?
  • 9. Unit 10: "Nem olaszul beszéltek?", unit 11: Hol vagy? Mit csinálsz? Grammar: conjugation. Conversation: Where are you and what are you doing?
  • 10. Unit 12: "Ez a szegedi busz?", unit 13: "Hogy vagy?" Grammar: demonstratives, adjectives. Conversation: How are you? What are you doing? Where are the...? How are these... look like? How is this... look like?
  • 11. Unit 24: Mennyi az idő? Grammar: adverbs of time. Conversation: what time is it? Revision & practise.
