Course objectives
After the end the lectures, the students will be able to identify, analyse, and evaluate basic ethnic musicological sources.
Syllabus
  • The lecture focuses on the knowledge of information sources in ethnic musicology with special attention paid to sources pertaining to traditional music in the 19th and 20th centuries. It deals with the classification and typology of the sources and the criticism of their form and contents. It also concentrates on the possibilities of basic diachronic and synchronic methods and their use in editorial practise and publication activities. The lecture will be completed with students' own practical attempts to select, critically analyse, and interpret a particular source.
