Course objectives
Having completed the course, the students will be able to describe the form of the lived Sunni Islam in the territory of the Czech Republic. The students will be able to define the basic terminology related to Islam and will be able to explain the relations among the following categories: religion – culture – lifestyle – ethics – politics – law.
Syllabus
  • -Basic terminology, the history of Islam, literature. -Islam in the Czech Republic – history of Muslim community. -Mosques and places of worship in the Czech Republic. -Five/six pillars of faith – professing the faith, prayer, alms, jihad. -Fast and Ramadan. -Pilgrimage. -Permitted and forbidden categories; food, clothing. -Relations within and outside the family. -Life cycle – birth and childhood. -Marriage and wedding rituals -Death and funerary rituals
