Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to give the students the general notions of literary theory and its methodological tools. At the end of the course the student should have the knowledge of basic notions of the theory of literature and the methods of literary criticism.
Syllabus
  • Literature and its social function
  • Literary criticism, its structure, allied and auxiliary scientific disciplines
  • Methodology of literary criticism: Literary methods, including philological, biographical, socio-positive, psychological methods, immanent methodological systems (Russian formalism, New Criticism, different forms of structuralism), methods of post-structuralism – hermeneutics, deconstruction etc. Post-modern context.
