Course objectives
At the end of the course student should understand different terms such as Moravia, czech music, music in Czech lands, music culture of Czechs and Germans in Moravia. Student should also know and be able to explain the main topics of the course.
Syllabus
  • Lectures on selected topics generally concerning compositions and composers, interprets and media in Moravia. Due to ist focus on the period 1800-1945 lectures will reflect both nationalities, such as czech and german. The Rise of czech music culture Pavel Křížkovský and the monastery at Staré Brno Importance of Prague organ school, its composers and theoreticians (F. Z. Skuherský, Nešvera, Musil) The modernity of Janáček and Novák "Critical eye" on the "fifthies", reflecting not only music and its composers, but also musicology.
