Course objectives
The course introduces the literary period of the turn of the 19th and 20th century in the Czech and European contexts. The aim of lectures and analyse will be the question of relations within streams and tendencies (modernism, fin de siècle, decadence, neoromanticism) in the frame of cultural period in the comparative perspective, but also in the field of Comparative Arts (fine arts, music, architecture). The aim of the course is to give systematical knowledge concerning the literary period and on this background to define the general signs of the cultural model.After finishing the course the students will be able to understand basic conceptions and theoretical basis of Comparative Arts and the literary context and to apply their konwledge to particular literary texts.

Assessment methods
The seminar combines home preparation with critical reading of particular literary and theoretical texts. In order to be given the credit the students have to pass an oral interview concerning the topic of the seminar.
