Course objectives
At the end of this course foreign students will be acquainted with the basic terminology that is necessary to study Czech language on scientific level. They will understand particular phenomena that cause difficulties to the foreigners. They will be able to use basic dictionaries and textbooks. They will know basic linguistic literature. Students will obtain knowledge and abilities that are necessary for further bachelor studies of the Czech language.

Teaching methods
The course consists of tutor’s explanations and independent work of students. Students learn to use secondary sources of information, to work with various kinds of dictionaries of Czech and they practise their knowledge of Czech linguistic terminology. Their seminar task is to prepare a complex linguistic analysis of an assigned text and to present their analysis in the seminar.
Assessment methods
Credit requirement is active attendance, preparing and presenting the report, knowledge the basic terminology of the field and problems mentioned during the lectures, acquaintance of selected special literature and linguistic magazines. Credits will be given after the written test.
