Course objectives
This one-semester lecture is trying to outline and discuss some problems concerning the role and the position of Italian theatre in the context of the whole Italian culture from c. Luigi Pirandello to current political theatre represented e.g. by Dario Fo. Besides the line of the dramatists, it also follows the line of great actors, above all representatives of author’s theatre, whose work will be shown and illustrated by audiovisual material. Students will have a chance to get familiar with some of their less known texts or texts that have not been translated yet. At the end of the course students will get an overview of the situation of Italian theatre during the last decades and they be able to interpret and analyse works of the greatest Italian dramatists.
