- Course objectives
- The subject focuses on the history of physical exercises, "sport" and the games in ancient times from Hellenism. The aim is to familiarize the students with ancient physical exercises and education systems, individual competitions mainly of professional "sport" and athletes and other "sportsmen". After completion of the subject the students will orientate themselves in "sports" disciplines of antiquity and their outputs.
- Syllabus
- Professional Hellenistic sport. Training and lifestyle. Isoolympic and other games. Etruscan sport. Roman sport and physical exercises. Roman sports spectatorship. Artistic expression of sport. Barbaric states and sport. Transition to the Middle Ages and medieval sport. Chivalry and kalokagathia. Heritage of antiquity to the present in the field of physical culture.
