- Course objectives
- In the first half of the semester, the course familiarises students with the structure and operation of the Church administration in the Czech lands (dioceses of Prague, Olomouc and Litomyšl) in the period ca. 1300–1419 at the level of archdeaconry, deaneries and parishes. In the second half of the semester, attention will be paid to the dynamic period of 1419–ca. 1520, i.e. from the outbreak of the Hussite Revolution to the beginning of the Reformation. In this part, attention will be paid not only to the Catholic Church but also to the Utraquist church and the Unity of the Brethren, with changes in church administration being monitored at all levels. In the seminar, documents from various church authorities will be read and analysed, and students will learn to work with an important group of sources related to Czech medieval history. While working on an independent seminar paper, they will also widen their experience with the general methodology of historical research.
