Course objectives
Characteristics of style, text and discourse levels of contemporary Polish. Description of contemporary language norm (two levels of Polish norm: "norma wzorcowa" - "norma użytkowa"), language usage and codification, description of individual language varieties of Polish (social and regional stratification of Polish), detailed characterics of individual functional styles ("styl potoczny", "styl przemówień", "styl naukowy", "styl dziennikarski i publicystyczny", "styl urzędowy i kancelaryjny", "styl artystyczny"), role and signification of style forming factors by text formation. The notion of language culture in the field of theory and practice. Theoretical knowledge will be exercised by analysis of authentic texts of various functional styles. At the end of the course students should be able to know stylistic terminology, to understand and explain theoretical base of stylistics and be able to use it in practice (text creation and stylistic analysis).

Lectures (practically exemplified theoretical information), class discussion, practical skills, reading of recommended literature, homeworks.
Assessment methods
Active participation, semester paper - according to the choice from the table of recommended themes, oral exam (theory and stylistic analysis of text).
