Course objectives
Students will extend their knowledge of modern Czech theatre history, esp. of so-called normalisation. The course will also focus on analysis of director's personality in variable contexts (individual develompemtn, local historical contexts etc.).
The course is organised as intensive seminar based on secondary literary sources and archival materials.
In spring semester 2018 is course focused on Milan Pásek in Divadlo bratří Mrštíků in 70. a 80.ties in last century.
Learning outcomes
students are able to reconstruct theatre production and analyse it in context
students are able to critically approach archival material
students understand style changes of modern directing
Syllabus
  • - introduction (who is Milan Pásek, what might be interesting?)
  • - Czech directing after 1945 - general orientation (trends, persons)
  • - first contextual mapping
  • - pretentation of partial (Pásk's contemporaries, development of MDB, paralel theatre activities in Brno, Prague etc.)
  • - reconstruction of selected performances
