- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students will be able to define selected phenomena of the Japanese language; explain selected phenomena of the Japanese language with respect to both synchronic and diachronic point of view; apply his previous knowledge in metalinguistic approach to modern Japanese; distinguish the Japanese linguistics and some specifics of the Japanese language; formulate basic ideas about the relation between the system of language and culture; judge the extent of applicability of general linguistic theories to a description of Japanese language.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture with discussions on the selected topic. The base of the class is students' knowledge of Japanese language, as well as other languages; reaging and interpretation of selected linguistic texts.

- Final paper on a specified topic. Attendance of at least 70 % of classes is required.
