- Course objectives
- The subject has the following objectives within the ISK curriculum:
to give students a deeper understanding of the historical evolution of Czech librarianship in the literary-cultural and literary-historical context;
to enable students to acquire knowledge of important milestones and personalities of the newer history of Czech librarianship and to critically reflect them in the context of study of the field;
to give students the opportunity to critically read and interpret literary and institutional documents related to the individual stages of the development of Czech librarianship from the mid 19th century to the present. - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course the student: will understand the recent historical development of the Czech librarianship literary-cultural and literary-historical context; will have knowledge of important milestones and personalities of the recent history of the Czech librarianship; will have the ability to critically read and interpret literary and institutional documents related to the different stages of development of the Czech librarianship from the mid-19th century to the present; writing will be able to critically reflect on a theme that the more recent history of the Czech librarianship applies.
- Syllabus
- Content of the subjects, the frame content of the course is to provide students with the relevant literary, historical and social insight into the recent history of the Czech librarianship. Time milestones in defining the outline of the course:
- 1st and 2nd hour: 1845-1890 (boom časopisectví even at the local level, magazines for literature, humor, women, celebrities Neruda, Hálek, Sládek, Krásnohorská, magazines relating to libraries and societies, diversity of types of publications related to reading in the context of education);
- 3rd and 4th hour: 1891-1920 (bibliophile, culture and writing style, modernism, readership, personality Březina, Arnošt Procházka, Salda, a librarian activities for the blind);
- 5th and 6th hour: 1921-1945 (Library and context of the Republic and the Protectorate, important authors Masaryk, Čapek, Mahen, Deml, Lidové noviny, the first library law, Czech-German context of the history of art);
- 7th and 8th hour: 1946-1960 (ideology and its influence on the development, function and position of libraries, important congresses of writers and their conclusions in the context of literary history, processes, writers, intellectuals problems, Václav Černy, Library Act 1959, and its influence on the running of libraries);
- 9th and 10th class: 1961-1989 (ideology and its influence on the functioning of the library in the Czech lands, samizdat, exile and samizdat publishers, opinions liberal journals, authors Škvorecký, Hrabal, Šotola, quotidian libraries - annual reports, censorship, literature for children and youth, translated literature and book culture as an escape from political pressure);
- 11th and 12th hour: 1990-Present (post-revolutionary context, transformation publishing business, internet, digital, personality Havel, Vaculík, Kundera, the new Library Act 2001, and the rethinking of library work);
