Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen the understanding of basic narratological concepts through the analysis of specific texts; students will gain the ability to clearly communicate and present their ideas in spoken and written form.
Learning outcomes
The student will be well versed in basic narratological categories and will acquire practical experience in working with them; after completing the seminar they will be able to explain these categories, put them into context and use them in their own text analysis.

  • 1.Theory of narration: introduction, basic definitions 2.Naratology as an interdisciplinary field: development of the field, its changes and overlap with other fields 3.Text and its aesthetic dimension: aesthetic function, norm and value 4. Levels of literary communication: text , author, recipient 5. Internal structure of the narrative: event, plot, narration, representation 6. Character 7. Time and space 8. Narrator 9. Focalization and perspective

Teaching methods
Teaching is aimed at students having enough room for their own activity and being able to check whether they have a good understanding of the subject; the teacher introduces the topic of the lesson, students work together on assigned exercises or tasks, the result of which they then present to the others.
Assessment methods
Class attendance and participation in activities; a written essay about 3-4 pages long.
