This course is designed for the master students of Baltic studies. There are no prerequisites to enroll to this course.

Course objectives
The main goal of this course is to introduce to the students the history of the Estonian literature in the 20th century, as well as the selected topics of the 21st century.
Learning outcomes
After finishing this course, the student:
- will know the main mouvements in the Estonian literature in the 20th century,
- will be able to describe the most prominent authors of this period and interpret their selected works,
- will know the main trends in contemporary Estonian literature and where to find additional information about it,
- will get an overview over translations from Estonian into Czech

  • 1. Estonia between the two revolutions (1905-1917)
  • 2. 1920s
  • 3. 1930s, WWII and the reasons for the split of the Estonian literature
  • 4. 1950s and 1960s
  • 5. 1970s
  • 6. 1980s and 1990s
  • 7. Trends in contemporary Estonian literature
  • The main content of the course will be supplemented by additional lectures on specific topics.
